Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.

Interpret terrazzo application requirements from job and manufacturer instructions and calculate the quantities of materials required 
Identify hazards relating to the work site, work practices, materials, tools and equipment, and check risk treatments are in place and operating 
Select and check terrazzo mixing, installation and other required equipment and tools are ready to use, and organise to fix any deficiencies according to workplace procedures 
Gather the terrazzo materials and other materials required by job instructions, and check they meet quality requirements and are ready to use according to the manufacturer instructions, product labels, safety data sheets and workplace procedures 
Establish a suitable mixing area and protect surrounding surfaces 
Check and confirm the substrate is free of cracks, flat, primed, clean and otherwise prepared and suitable for installing terrazzo 
Check the substrate’s moisture content is suitable for installing thin-set terrazzo according to manufacturer instructions 
Place floor divider strips for aesthetic purposes and for control and expansion joints, according to job instructions 
Mix the terrazzo base and other ingredients according to the manufacturer instructions, product labels, safety data sheets and workplace procedures 
Spread and trowel the terrazzo mix to the appropriate thickness, according to workplace procedures and manufacturer instructions 
After the surface has cured, grind, grout, polish and seal the surface according to workplace procedures and manufacturer instructions 
Clean up the work area, identify items for recycling and dispose of waste 
Identify, tag and report any damage to equipment and tools 
Check, clean and do routine maintenance on equipment and tools and store them and unused materials 
Complete task outcome documentation
